April 17, our graduation dinner and dance. I have been looking forward to this for so long. I didn't go to my own high school prom so this was my big chance.
Our dress...I wore a beautiful black and white satin dress with the white being only in the back and on it a black criss cross ribbion. Aaron spent alot of money going out and getting a great black suit to match the dress and white shirt and a black tie to match.
Aaron came over in the morning to take me to hair appointment which I thought was very nice of him. My parents were in Calgary for a week that week. I got my hair done at Hair Tech 200 with Sue and she did a fabulous job. One of the ladies in the salon asked me if I was getting married that day because I was getting an updo and having little white flowers put in my hair. I replied saying "No, its my graduation day".
Aaron came back and got me and brought me home. We tried to take a few pictures so that everyone in Calgary could see what we looked like. We went to Jiffy Photo to get our pictures taken. The man asked us if they were our engagement photos we were having done. Poor Aaron I thought was so embarassed he was bright red and we both said NO! We continued with our pictures and then back home to relax. It happened that the day was warm for April and it had rained a little in the morning but had cleared up by the time we left.
Aaron drove us to the Congress Center where the party was being held. When we got out of the car Aaron realized that he had left his jacket at home and he freaked out. I figured it was just his jacket and not that big of a deal. But he really wanted the jacket. We had enough time to go home but then he said it wasn't a big deal. I later found out that the jacket had held the ring and Aaron had put the ring later in his pants pocket. He realized he had it and then it wasn't a big deal.
We went in and found some seats with the people in our class. It was lovely. Everyone was dressed up some of our teachers were around. Dinner was great. When it came time to dance Aaron even asked me. Which was a huge suprise because I know he hates dancing. We had fun and I loved it. We sat and chatted with some friends and a teacher asked us if we were going out and we said "Yes, for a year and a half". Both of us were very embarassed. We hadn't told any one in the class we were dating. She then asked Aaron "Where's the ring already?!"Oh my gosh, I just about dropped dead totally embarassed and we both said not for a while we wanted to get careers and money organized before jumping into it. Little did I know...
We enjoyed the rest of the evening and aruond 10:30p.m. our class was leaving to go to other bars and pubs. Neither of us are like that and we decided to leave. Earlier in the night Aaron had suggested that if it was nice we could go down town to Parliment Hill and take some more pictures. We found a parking spot and even though it was a nice April night it was still cool. I switched my shoes and I put on my loafers and a leather jacket which didn't go at all with my dress. But whatever!
We walked around and took lots of pictures Aaron was great taking tons of pictures of me and I a few of him. We got up nearly to the stair when Aaron turn to me and started saying how much he loved me and how happy he was, and I honestly don't remember everything. He then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Oh my gosh, what a proposal. I started to cry and couldn't believe what was happening. When he got up the Peace Towere chimed 11. It was just perfectly wonderful.
We walked back to the car my mark up a mess and a grin from ear to ear. Aaron told me about all about everything. He said he tried so hard to make my day perfect, how he freaked out when he forget the jacket. He had put the ring in a watch case and strapped and zipped it in and when it came time to taking it out he couldn't get it undone. In all of the pictures his hand was in his jacket. He also said that was thought it was written on his face when people kept asking us when we were getting married.
We later told my parents the day after they got home by having our pictures developed and when we got to the pictures of Parliment Hill we told them. They were happy and cried. A few weeks later we went up and told his Dad and Vicky. Although his Dad knew the second we got out of the car.
Aaron picked out the ring all by himself three weeks prior to April 17th, he'd hidden the ring all that time. I love my ring and its perfect exactly what I had wanted.
We went to school and told our teachers and with in a few hours the entire school staff knew we were engaged.
